Question about after effects of having an IV in the neck?
About 4 days ago I was in the ER, they needed to do a Ct scan but couldn't find a vein in my arms so they put one in my neck. The first attempt didn't work but the doctor got it on the 2nd attempt right below where he tried the 1st time. When I went in for the CT scan and they started to inject the dye it hurt horribly so they stopped called in the nurse and had her watch as they attempted a 2nd time to inject the dye. Immediately I was in tremendous pain and the nurse was yelling for them to stop the injection. My neck was all swollen and they were placing warm packs on the area. They said the vein infiltrated and the dye for the CT scan leaked out of the vein. Since then I have had what feels like muscle spasms on the side of the neck where they had the IV and the pain goes into the shoulder on the same side. I went back to the ER and all they did was prescribe muscle relaxants and pain killers, while those help immediately when they wear off the pain and spasms are back. Is this normal or could they have possibly did something to a nerve in my neck causing this reaction ?
