Is the GOP trying to throw the 2012 election?

Their smear and block campaign against Obama seemed to be winning hearts and minds. But they seem to be wasting their time courting birthers and truthers who have no mass support. They could never win the Black vote or the Union vote anyway, and their "deport them all" immigration position and attempt to destroy Medicare is going to lose the Hispanic and elder vote too. It is as if the GOP was infiltrated by Democrats.
