Treatment for IV infiltration?
I had surgery on my left foot 6 weeks ago, which left me with 4 K wires sticking out of the tops of 2 of my toes. I was told not to get the toes wet, which meant I could only clean them with a warm cloth around the toes, and not submerge them in water. Last week, one of the toes became red, swollen and hot to touch. I then spent three days in hospital getting antibiotics through IV. The last bag of antibiotics would not go through, and the doctor ended up starting a new IV on the other arm. Now the first IV site has been red, swollen and very painful since I left hospital. I have been told that the IV 'infiltrated' and am wondering how to treat this, and how long it be like this? Do I need to go to the GP for this?
